FAQ

Answers to common questions

Can I coat my garage floor myself?

You can, but it is harder than it looks. Most failures start with prep, not the coating. The slab must be clean, dry and ground to the right texture. Store-bought kits are often thinner than what providers use. If the floor has cracks, moisture or old sealer, a local provider can tell you what is realistic.

How do I know if my slab is too damp to coat?

Moisture is a quiet problem. Tape a square of clear plastic to the slab for a day or two. If you see dampness underneath, the slab is releasing moisture. In homes with sump pumps and cold, wet springs, this is common. A provider can test it properly before any coating goes down.

Is epoxy or polyaspartic better for my garage?

It depends on your floor and your plans. Epoxy is a familiar choice for garage floors and gives a solid, smooth finish. Polyaspartic cures faster and handles temperature swings well. Many providers use both together. Ask them which fits your slab, your climate and your schedule.

Are the fumes during coating safe?

Coatings can give off strong fumes while they are applied and curing. Keep kids, pets and anyone sensitive out of the space. Open doors for airflow when told to. Providers usually use proper protective gear. Ask which product they plan to use and request its safety data sheet.

How long before I can drive on the new floor?

It depends on the product and the weather. Some coatings allow light foot traffic within a day, while cars often need more time to cure fully. Cold or humid days can slow things down. Your provider should give you clear dates for walking, parking and full use.

What should I expect on the day of the job?

Expect noise and dust at first, since the slab is usually ground smooth. Then cracks are filled, and the coating goes on in layers with time to set between them. You will need to clear the garage beforehand. A good provider explains each step and what to avoid.

How much does a garage floor coating cost?

Typical U.S. prices vary a lot by size, slab condition and product. Repairs and prep can change the total. Always get a written quote that lists prep, materials and coats. Comparing a few quotes helps you see what is included.

How do I choose a provider I can trust?

Ask how they prepare the slab, since that matters most. Ask what product they use, how long it takes and what the written quote covers. Check that they carry proper insurance and licensing where your area requires it. Russiagrant Floor Coating connects you with independent providers in our network, but you decide who to hire. Take your time comparing.
